The Bard Beat Down -

Bard Beat Down is an introduction to Shakespeare? but one that is quite the opposite of being forced to read Romeo and Juliet as a sophomore in high school. It is a light-hearted entry into Shakespearean language in which any perceived pomp and circumstance is stripped from the proceedings. The audience is left with an analog interaction: share an insult created from the seemingly bizarre words from The Bard’s plays. http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles18/593513/projects/8808165/7ae1002f3ab685d6c366528a426ad7f4.png via John Howrey

We all know that Rasputin was one handsome devil. Don’t kid yourself.
“There’s no disputin, I just love Rasputin. When our teacher told us to turn our books to his chapter, and a big picture of him popper up, I just couldn’t concentrate on the rest of the lesson. I couldn’t take my eyes off his beautiful bearded face. When I heard that he solicited sexual favors from women, I felt an extreme uncontrollable jealousy. That night I went to bed with my history book and read the chapter on Rasputin, curtains drawn, candles lit and a Barry White record playing”

“Look, if you wanted to eliminate every masterpiece or painting created by someone who had moronic ideas about status and race, you’d have to empty the museums. You’d have to tear down the Taj Mahal. That was built by slaves you know. People are so layered—no one is all good or bad. There are parts of them that are better than the other parts. Sometimes I feel like righteous indignation is everybody’s favorite emotion these days.” — Mary Zimmerman addresses some of the more controversial aspects of The Jungle Book, and discusses how she has handled them in her new adaptation.
